Welcome to the Coordinated Database and GIS Data Distribution and Download Site

The Rio Grande is the only major source of renewable water in the Paso del Norte region of the Southwestern United States. In order to be able to use the available river supply as effectively as possible and manage related environmental resources, a system for monitoring the river and water quality, with as much "real-time" information as possible, is highly desirable. An up-to-date system of water flow and real-time water quality monitoring is necessary to more efficiently deliver specific amounts of water to the end users within acceptable water quality limits.

With the generous financial support of the El Paso Water Utilities and the United States Army Corp of Engineers, the Paso del Norte Watershed Council has facilitated the development of the Paso del Norte Cooperative Database Project (click for fact sheet). Within The Project, staff at New Mexico State University, Texas A&M University, the University of Texas at El Paso and la Universidad Autónoma de Ciudad Juárez have compiled water supply and quality data for surface flows in the river between Elephant Butte Reservoir and Fort Quitman and provide access to these data via the Internet-based database and GIS product hosted at this website. The NMSU Department of Geography, Spatial Applications Research Center is serving this website via their primary server.

The menu bar to the right provides quick access to other areas of this website. The Home link will always return you to this page. To access the ArcGIS Server Web Mapping Application (WMA), use the "ArcGIS Server WMA" link. Metadata for the data accessed here is located at the "Data and Metadata" link. The link will send you to a page containing a listing of available data for the Paso del Note Region of the Rio Grande. The "ArcGIS Server 10.x Help" link will transfer you to a page describing the tools and functionality available in the ArcGIS Server WMA. Finally, you can access a page of related websites by clicking on "Links".
